Resolving Issues
Some of the top customer issues with Excel and web based reports for the Analysis Services environment are as listed below. For even more important issues please contact us.  Click here.

Large queries and network traffic

Queries on large Analysis Services cubes with freeform reporting can increase network traffic. This can impact on distributed Analysis Services Solutions.
Maintenance of Analysis Services information

Managing changing names in a view for Microsoft’s Analysis Services solutions generally requires manual updating and an element of risk. The updating process can be significant if there are a large number of servers, databases, cubes, dimensions, members and/or worksheets.
Freefrom reporting can be slow and there is no data input

Most Analysis Services solutions do not allow for inputting on free-form reports, thus restricting ease of use and presentation where data capture is required. This often results in more views being required to cater for the differing requirements for inputting and reporting.

The benefits of working with o2olap solutions are as detailed below:

Benefits Reduced network traffic.

Queries are optimized to reduce network traffic, with dynamic and optimized querying improving performance. This is for both the browser and freeform reporting.
Best maintenance and flexibility.

Flexible querying and modeling.

Enables any query and report generation without the user having to know any of the complex syntax required for the reports.
Excel development and freeform modeling and updating.

Seamless integration with Excel enables Analysis Services model development and report generation and includes functionality to input in a freeform report.
Evidence Clients are interrogating cubes with more than 10 million cell point without any performance issues. The maintenance and report generation has been automated by o2olap with an approach that works. Companies and resellers are producing any report that is desired from a cube. Other resolved issues for Excel include:

  • Presentation and data capture depending on the type of user
  • Multiple connections where each user has to create a connection to each cube
  • Inflexible cube browsing and modeling
  • PivotTable drilling on dimensions shows a dimension level per column
  • Irritating clicking on members to select and deselect them
  • Nest dimensions and the presentation of nested data is awkward
  • Member drilling functionality is limited
  • Limited additional summary information
  • Limited formatting
  • Numerous multi-dimensional expressions (MDX) queries have to be saved
  • Pivot tables cannot show blank rows or columns
  • Excel modeling is limited, inflexible and cumbersome

Give users the tools they need to save time and money.
