o2olap provides users with tools that allow them to drill through to relational
data, directly from their summary OLAP cube information. This is necessary when users
need to see the individual relational transactions that make up the summary information
within the OLAP cubes. It is particularly helpful when investigating
patterns, variances and exceptions within a population of figures. A practical example
is where the sales may be exceptionally high on a product and the accounting department
needs to investigate the reason for the fluctuation. Practically, the accountant
could click on the summary value and retrieve the sales transactions from the accounting
ledger for that particular product.
